KFC - Brainwave Controlled Levitating Burger Game
For KFC’s new ad campaign, we created an interactive installation where a levitating burger could be controlled using the player’s brainwaves. The objective was simple and playful: the more the participant craved the burger, the closer it moved; the more their focus wavered, the farther it drifted away.
The system translated real-time EEG signals into motion control, creating a direct feedback loop between the player’s mental state and the floating object. A live visualization of the user’s brainwave activity added an extra layer of immersion, making the internal process visible, expressive, and fun to watch—both for the participant and the surrounding audience.
Concept
The experience blended humor, spectacle, and biometric interaction to align with KFC’s bold campaign tone. By turning craving into a mechanic—and a literal force controlling a levitating burger—the installation delivered a memorable, shareable moment that connected the brand’s message with a surprising form of gameplay.
Technical Details
I developed the full game system, which included:
Real-time EEG integration to interpret concentration and craving-related signals
Custom firmware and motion control for the levitating burger mechanism
Unity-based game logic converting signal intensity into approach/retreat behavior
Dynamic UI and data visualization of the player’s brainwave patterns
Calibration tools to accommodate different users quickly in a high-traffic event setting
The experience combined hardware, software, sensing, and game design into a cohesive, event-ready installation.
