Turkcell - Laser Avoidance Game

For Turkcell, Turkey’s largest GSM operator, we designed and developed a laser-avoidance challenge that toured nationwide as part of the company’s annual campaign and event activations. The installation took the form of a 3 × 8 meter chamber outfitted with 15 precisely aligned laser beams, creating an obstacle course that participants had to navigate without breaking the light paths.

At the end of the chamber, an Android tablet awaited as the prize—turning the experience into a playful blend of physical challenge, precision, and spectacle. The high-visibility setup attracted large crowds at every event. During its premiere, more than 100 people participated, and the installation was ultimately experienced by approximately 250,000 visitors across multiple venues.

After debuting at Turkcell’s main campaign event, the booth went on to appear at the Crystal Apple Awards (Turkey’s most prestigious advertising awards), the iPhone 5c launch, and a 10-city tour as part of GNCFEST, Turkcell’s youth festival.

Concept

The goal was to create an experience that felt like stepping into a spy movie—a confined space filled with crisscrossing laser beams, demanding agility and focus. The physicality of the challenge made the booth highly engaging both to play and to watch, turning participants into performers and the booth into a social centerpiece at every event.

Technical Details

I developed the full interaction and control system for the installation, including:

  • Custom PCB design for laser control and sensor interfacing

  • Sensor integration to detect beam breaks in real time

  • Firmware development to manage scoring, penalties, and overall game logic

  • Game design balancing to ensure challenge without frustration

  • Event-ready robustness for large crowds and continuous operation

The system delivered responsive, reliable gameplay throughout months of touring across diverse venues and conditions.
